We’ve been remiss in not telling you more about the wonderful trip members of the Pitkin County Young Republicans Club took to Washington, D.C. April 29 to May 3. The trip was a blur of activity, with meetings with Colorado Congressmen Scott Tipton (3rd CD), Ken Buck (4th CD) and Mike Coffman (6th CD) and Colorado Senator Cory Gardner, lunch at the American Enterprise Institute with Robert Doar, an expert on poverty in the U.S., and Michael Auslin, an expert on Asian matters, a meeting with leadership of the national College Republicans, tours of the U.S. Capitol Building, the U.S. Supreme Court and the White House, a visit to the Newseum, which is a museum devoted to journalism, and much, much more.
The trip was paid for by the students and their families as well as with funds raised by the students from pizza and popcorn sales at Aspen High School and a fundraiser at which the Princeton University Tigertones performed, arranged by Shelly and Robin Hamill.
Several of the members of the Club graduated on May 30 from Aspen High School and are on to the next stage of their lives, inspired we hope by the amazing time they had in the nation’s capital.
